Green SM’s India Entry Signals a New Phase in EV Market Competition

Vietnam’s electric mobility ambitions have officially arrived in India. Green SM, the electric mobility arm associated with Vingroup and VinFast, has launched its all-electric taxi service, Green SM Limo, beginning operations in Delhi-NCR with a fleet of VinFast seven-seater electric SUVs.

At first glance, this may appear to be another ride-hailing launch. In reality, it represents something much bigger: the convergence of vehicle manufacturing, fleet operations, and mobility services into a single EV ecosystem.

Why does this matter?

India is increasingly being viewed not just as a passenger vehicle market, but as a high-utilization mobility ecosystem where EV economics can be optimized through fleet deployment. Green SM’s strategy highlights three important trends:

·  EV-first positioning from day one, reinforcing confidence in electric mobility.
· Fleet operations as a brand-building platform, allowing thousands of consumers to experience VinFast vehicles before considering private ownership.
· Localization advantages, supported by VinFast’s manufacturing presence in Tamil Nadu, which could strengthen supply chains and cost competitiveness over time.

This approach mirrors a broader shift occurring across the global automotive industry. Automakers are no longer competing solely on vehicle sales; they are building integrated ecosystems spanning mobility services, charging infrastructure, data, and customer experience.
India’s growing urban mobility demand, rising sustainability focus, and evolving EV landscape make it an important testbed for such models.
Success, however, will depend on execution. Pricing, charging infrastructure, vehicle availability, and service quality will determine whether Green SM can carve out a meaningful position against established players.

Green SM’s launch is more than a taxi service; it is a live demonstration of how the next generation of EV ecosystems may be built.
